What Is Home Infusion?
Home infusion is when the patient administers his/her own IV antibiotic medication at home after being trained to do so. The patient’s insurance determines whether the patient has the option to select home infusion. Sometimes the insurance will only cover the infusion if it is done at an infusion center. If insurance does approve home infusion, the TCIDA pharmacy provides the patient with the medication to be used at home and the TCIDA infusion nurse trains the patient to administer it. Home infusion is safe and very convenient for patients because they don’t have to make regular trips to the infusion center.
